Sodepur flyover to shut every weekend from July 19 for urgent structural repairs
A cyclonic circulation over Odisha and adjoining West Bengal, along with an active east-west trough line, has triggered widespread rainfall activity across West Bengal. According to the regional weather office, multiple districts in South Bengal are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall from Friday through Sunday, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds.
Special alerts have been issued for South 24 Pargana, North 24 Pargana, East Bardhaman, West Bardhaman, East Medinipur, West Medinipur, Jhargram, Bankura, Purulia, Birbhum, Murshidabad, and Nadia. Wind speeds are expected to reach 30 to 40 km/h during this period. Rainfall intensity in these areas is likely to remain high, with multiple spells predicted.
In Kolkata and its surrounding areas, skies are expected to remain partly cloudy, with light to moderate rainfall in certain locations. The rain may be intermittent but will continue over the next few days. The current atmospheric conditions may also lead to increased humidity in these parts.
In North Bengal, rainfall activity is expected to intensify from Tuesday, July 8. A warning for heavy rain has been issued for Darjeeling, Kalimpong, North Dinajpur, South Dinajpur, and neighbouring districts. Scattered heavy rain is also likely in both Dinajpur districts. Some areas in North Bengal may continue to receive rainfall through Sunday.
Weather conditions across the state are expected to remain unstable for the next five days. While South Bengal may see a slight reduction in rainfall on Monday and Tuesday, further decline is expected from Wednesday. Authorities have advised people in low-lying and waterlogged areas to stay alert. Monitoring and preparedness activities have been stepped up to ensure timely response in affected regions.
